Large Format Tiles, A Complete Introduction and Directory

Large format tiles are so popular for saloons and big areas. A complete and entire introduction and directory is presented in this article. For big or small house repairs and new construction, large format tiles are increasingly preferred.

These statement tiles, which were formerly reserved for business projects, are now finding their way into our homes and are equally stunning, useful, and startling.

What exactly do we mean by “large format”?

Depending on who you ask, the response will vary, however we might suggest anything larger than a 600 × 600mm size. Different sizes of large format tiles are available.

Grout lines play a major role in how much a tile’s size affects the design. No of the size of the area or room, using large format tiles results in fewer grout lines and a more basic feel. The impact of smaller tiles is considerably different.

It truly depends on the design and feel you want to create whether you want to make grout lines a focal point and highlight them with, perhaps, a contrasting color.

For people who prefer simple design and a “more tile, less grout” philosophy, large format tiles are ideal. Since all of our porcelain tiles have rectified, or straight edges, grout lines on floors must be at least 3 mm wide to give the impression of a seamless design.

Installation

Large formats can look extremely amazing, but how do you pick which size is best for your project when there are so many options? The combination of pricing, design, and some extra factors like handling and installation can help you make an informed decision even if it really is a matter of personal preference.

So let’s take a look at some of our large format porcelains. For more information on handling and installing large format tiles, feel free to visit our Installation and Helpful Information pages.

800 x 800mm

This tile size, 800 × 800mm, is large enough to seem like large format while remaining manageable in terms of installation.

And in the instance of Artisan Rope, which is seen above, there is a matching 20mm thick porcelain slab for outside, allowing you to use a stunning large format tile to aesthetically combine inside and outside space.

As demonstrated above with our Artisan Grey tile, you may vary across floors by adding an 800 x 400mm.

Our porcelain tile collections with an 800 × 800mm size include Flow, Blend, Artisan, Forge, and Aria.

900 x 900mm

Our 900 by 900mm tiles truly have a huge format feel, and we have many collections that include this beautiful tile size. They make excellent large kitchen tiles. Since most of our 900 x 900 mm tiles include a corresponding outside tile, they are incredibly adaptable and have minimum grout lines whether they are used inside or outdoors.

Beat, Loft, Haven, Fuse, Louis, Swirl, Utopia, Belleza Bianca, Bliss, Swoop, Docklands, Metro

1000 x 1000mm

We are expanding, with three of our collections offering very huge formats at 1000 by 1000mm. With our Patina and Belleza Bianco collections having an 8mm thickness and our Beat collection having a new 6mm thickness, tile thickness actually decreases as tile sizes rise in this scenario. It is even more crucial to make sure that the substrates are appropriate for taking your selected tiles and are properly prepared when using thinner large format porcelains.

1200 x 1200mm

1200 × 1200mm is what you need if you’re looking for something truly unique. This tile size is stunning. Additionally, check out our Flow, Pave, and Ethos collections if you’re searching for matching 1200 × 1200 tiles for the outdoors in 20mm thickness.

It is difficult to beat this size of tile if you are willing to stretch for it. It simply screams “luxury” in every way.

Artisan, Aria, Forge, Flow, Aria, Pave, Blend

1200 x 600mm

This gorgeous large format tile size is present in a large number of our collections. When using rectangular tiles, you must consider both the pattern and the orientation in which you want your tiles to be laid out. If you choose to offset them, the overlap in a staggered brick-joint design shouldn’t be greater than 33%. This lessens the risk of lippage and cracking (where one tile edge is higher or lower than the adjacent tile). The typical 1/2 offset pattern, which is frequently employed for smaller tiles, is inappropriate.

1510 x 750mm

This format is excellent. Both some of our Stone effect tiles and the majority of our Spanish marbles are offered in this size. It’s huge, but if you’re willing to take the risk, it’s worthwhile. Although we can’t guarantee that the indoor gym is included in the bundle, you get the idea: these are hotel-sized tiles for your house. The overlap should not be greater than 33% in this case for the staggered brick bond in order to prevent lippage.

1800 x 1000mm

The addition of these enormous large-format tiles to any bathroom is fantastic. But there’s no reason to end there. They also work well as a splash back in the kitchen. Additionally, the grout lines that are present are incredibly thin.

Although they are still 35 kg per tile on their own, the 8mm thickness helps with the weight, but they still require expert handling on site because of their size. For additional information, visit our Installation page or contact us.

Furthermore, each color has 36 distinct plank designs. How well can you distinguish between this and the real thing?
